Seikkailua puiden latvoissa 27.7. / Adventure in the treetops on 27th July

Helteisenä aurinkoisena kesäiltana yhdeksän rohkean hydepakkilaisen porukka kokoontui Espoon Leppävaaraan kokeilemaan köysiratakiipeilyä. Saatuamme kypärät, valjaat ja tiukan turvallisuuskoulutuksen hajaannuimme puiden latvoihin koettelemaan omaa kestävyyskykyä ja korkeankammoa. Puiden väliset esteradat oli jaettu neljään vaikeusasteeseen, ja moni meistä uskaltui jopa vaikeimpaan, mustaan rataan, jonka esteet olivat parhaimmillaan 18 metrin korkeudessa! Ylhäältä puista avautuivat huikeat näkymät Leppävaaran urheilupuistoon ja lähellä oleviin peltoihin ja metsään. Ilta oli huikea, kiitos kaikille osallitujille!

On a hot sunny summer evening nine brave Hydepakki people gathered in Leppävaara, Espoo to try the treetop climbing. We got helmets, harnesses and a strict security training, and after that we spread to different routes to test our stamina and the fear of high places. The routes between the trees were divided into four different categories based on difficulty, and many of us had the courage to go to the most difficult black route, which was 18 meters high! The views that opened from the trees were magnificent, and altogether the evening was very nice. Thanks to all the participants!

Jukolan viesti - Jukola relay 18.-19.6.2016

Hydepakki osallistui perinteiseen tapaan Jukolan viestiin, joka kisattiin tänä vuonna 18.-19.6. Lappeenrannassa. Viime hetken muutoksista huolimatta saimme koko seitsenhenkisen joukkueen kasaan kuuden aikaan lauantai-iltana.Kisa käytiin tänä vuonna varsin märissä olosuhteissa - etenkin pellolle pystytetty kilpailukeskus oli lähinnä mutavelliä.

Joukkueen tavoite oli lähinnä maaliinpääsy, ja kaikki näyttikin hyvältä viimeisen osuuden lopulle asti. Ankkurin matkaan kuitenkin tuli hiukan liikaa mutkia viimeisillä rasteilla eikä maaliinpääsy ennen kolmea iltapäivällä aivan onnistunut.

Hyde and Teepakki participated again into traditional Jukola relay that was held this year in Lappeenranta on 18.-19.6. Despite of last minute changes we got full seven members into competition. Weather was this year very wet, especially competition centre was mostly mud.

Target for the team was mostly to get whole race completed, and everything seemed to be fine until third last control of last leg. But then our last leg runner got bit off the route, and couldn't reach finish line before 3 pm on Sunday afternoon.

Tour de Noux 21.-22.5

We had a great weeked trip in the blooming national park of Nuuksio. The weather was gorgeous: it was hot but there were no moskitoes.

 

In this picture a chemistry student in a makeshift lab is doing his magic: pancake dough.

The salmon was pierced by wooden bolts like a vampire.

We were 8 people, so there was room for spontaneus action: a tent sauna. 

All in all we had a great time. A big thank you for everybody!

Kakkukisa / Cake competition

Aurinkoisen kevät päivänä joukko innokkaita leipureita kokoontui Helsinkiin leipomaan ja herkuttelemaan.

On a sunny day a group of bakers came together in Helsinki to bake, eat and hang out.

Porukka jakaantui kolmeen ja alkoi tiukka huutokauppa aineksista. Jokaiselle ryhmälle tarjottiin perusainekset kakkua varten, mutta saaduilla pokeripoleteilla tuli ostaa kakkuun täytteet ja pääliset.

The group was divided to three and the auction started. Every group got basic ingredients for the cake, but with given poker chips the teams bought something inside and to he top of the cake.

Nettiä ja keittokirjaa apuna käyttäen taikinat tehtiin ja paistettiin samalla tutkaillen muiden teoksia. Lopuksi kakut täytettiin ja koristeltiin.

With the help of Internet and cook book every team came up with a plan and started baking while looking at each others creations. After cooking the cakes they were filled and made look as good as possible.

Yhden kakun vielä ollessa uunissa aloitettiin kahden ensimmäisen maisteleminen ja vertailu. Lopputulokset olivat herkullisia ja viimeinenkin kakku syötiin kokonaan, kun todettiin, ettei sitä jakseta paistaa enempää.

One cake was still in the oven when the tasting and evaluating of the first two cakes begun. The end results were delicious and the last cake was eaten even though it wasn't cooked through.

Illan jälkeen kaikilla oli vatsat täynnä kakkua ja jäljelle jäi vain yksi pala.

After the cooking  everyone had their stomachs full of cake and only one peace was left.

Vappu 2016

Hydepakin vapputouhuja riitti viimevuotiseen tapaan kahdelle päivälle: sekä vappuaattona että itse vappupäivänä suunnattiin Kaivopuistoon ihmettelemään sääjumalten suosiota.

Vappuaattona nautittiin kevään tulosta pelien parissa. Armottoman mölkynpeluun ja frisbeenheittelyn lomassa ehdittiin höpöttää niin Coloradon väestönkehityksestä kuin korianterintykkäysgeeneistäkin. Päivän ohjelma päättyi huikeaan maailmanvalloitusleikkiin, joka sai yllättävän geopoliittisia piirteitä osanottajien hiekkaimperumien yrittäessä nitistää toisensa.

Itse vappupäivänä osallistuimme porukalla Kaivopuiston perinteiseen vappupiknikkiin. Akrobaattisemmat hydepakkilaiset järjestivät Hyden lipun liehumaan ylväästi tammenoksaan samalla kun herkkusuisemmat hydepakkilaiset kaivoivat trangiat esiin munkinpaisto-operaatiota varten. Ei ole trangiassa itse paistetun donitsin voittanutta -- onneksi tehtiin niitä melkein sangollinen.

Just like last year, Hydepakki just couldn't get enough of vappu, so we headed to Kaivopuisto twice to witness the favour of the weather gods.

The day before Vappu we spent playing games. Our bigger-than-life games included mölkky and frisbees, and our conversations ranged from the demographic development of Colorado to coriander genetics. We ended the day by playing a game of "world domination" which turned surprisingly geopolitical as the various empires of sand attempted to crush one another.

On the 1st of May we took part in the traditional vappu picnic in Kaivopuisto. Our more acrobatic members set Hyde's flag flying majestically on an oak branch as our more food-oriented members set up trangias for a formidable donut operation. There's no donut like one self-made in a trangia -- good thing we made almost a bucketful of them.

Päiväretki Sipoonkorpeen 13.3. / Day trip to Sipoonkorpi on March 13th

Kauniina aurinkoisena kevätaamuna suuntasimme noin kymmenen hengen porukalla kohti Sipoonkorven kansallispuistoa. Parempaa ilmaa ei olisi voinut toivoa - aurinko paistoi ja lämmitti, linnut lauloivat ja hymy oli herkässä. Lähdimme kiertämään Kalkkiruukin luontopolkua, minkä jälkeen jatkoimme matkaa puiston itäosaan Bakunkärriin. Pientä sekaannusta tuli, kun jouduimme lähettämään retkikunta eksynyttä myöhästynyttä retkeläistä vastaan, mutta siitäkin selvittiin. Matkalla metsän läpi itään päätimme poiketa polulta suunnistamaan, ja vaikka emme varsinaisesti eksynneet, oli vaikeassa maastossa rämpiminen aikamoinen seikkailu! Retken päätteeksi pidimme evästauon ja grillailimme Kalkkiruukin laavulla. Kiitos kaikille retkelle osallistuineille mukavasta retkestä ja hyvästä seurasta!

The day was very beautiful and sunny - we couldn't have hoped for better weather! Our trip started on a nature trail of Kalkkiruukki in the southern part of the park, from where we followed a path leading us to the east. At some point of our journey we decided to go deviate from the path and do some orienteering, which turned out to be a real adventure with all the unexpected wet swamps and disappearing trails! Finally we returned to a bonfire place on the nature trail, where we spent a while grilling sausages and relaxing. It was a very nice day, thanks to everyone who came to the trip!
